Alt Text Software Simulation

I designed this concept project to teach eLearning developers how to add alt text to images in Articulate Storyline.

eLearning developers are presented with a guided simulation of adding alt text to an image followed by an opportunity to practice this skill independently.

Audience: eLearning developers

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Voiceover, Visual Design, Storyboard, and Mockups

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360, Snagit, Audacity, Figma, MindMeister, MilaNote

An eLearning development company has received feedback that their eLearning does not meet the accessibility needs of their clients.

Although the eLearning developers have received training on the importance of accessibility, their knowledge has not transferred into their development process. When presented with a baseline assessment, the eLearning developers were able to identify an average of three different methods of increasing accessibility (e.g., color contrast, closed captions).

Due to the recent feedback from clients, the eLearning development company is eager to mend these issues as soon as possible to prevent clients from seeking services elsewhere.

The Problem

The Solution

After assessing the company’s most recent eLearning projects, I compiled a list of accessibility features from most utilized to not utilized at all. Based on this list, I proposed a series of software simulation experiences that can be assigned to each eLearning developer if their most recent work does not display that skill. For instance, if we review Jerry’s most recent project and he successfully utilized closed captioning then he could opt out of completing the software simulation for that skill.

This software simulation is an example of what an eLearning developer would experience if their most recent project did not successfully utilize alt text.
